2018

GW rooftop garden became the first development project in Japan to be certified by SITES® (The Sustainable SITES Initiative), receiving a Gold certification.

2018

Green Wise collaborated with Sfera and The Plant to create an exhibition under the theme ‘Shaping Beauty’, and introduced our lifestyle vision; ‘Slow Flower Life’ by indoor green decoration.

An affiliated company ‘Green Wise Italy Srl.’ was established in Milan, Italy.

“Jindaiji Garden” completed in Tokyo Chofu district, and Restaurant Maruta opens.

Two of the residential buildings in ”Jindaiji Garden” receives LEED for Homes PLATINUM.

111 anniversary in November Commemorate the 111th anniversary of the founding of Green Wise

Started Greenhouse Yoga at headquarters in partnership with BEACH TOWN Inc.

2015

Recreated the stone wall for Lina’s residence and the red clay of Brazil for the Lina Bo Bardi Exhibition held at Watari-um (The Watari Museum of Contemporary Art).

2014

Partnered with Belgian planter manufacturer, Atelier Vierkant and became its Japanese sales agent.

2013

Created basic plan for and constructed the Yokohama MINATOMIRAI MARK IS rooftop garden.
We operate and manage the edible garden, MINNANO NIWA and manage cultivation including outdoor facilities.

2012

Introduced the first IPM (Integrated Pest Management) in Japan as corporate green space management for the Ricoh plant in Omori.

2011

Design and construction technology supervisor for indoor greening of Korea’s first mall, Kimpo Airport Lotte Mall.

Evaluated as Excellent Stage 3 in SEGES certification

Received the 23rd Nikkei The Best of New Offices Environmental Award (Our headquarters building)

Obtained special acknowledgment as one of the 100 Best Corporation Greens connected to conserving biodiversity.

Certified Excellent Stage 2 in SEGES (Social and Environmental Green Evaluation System).

2006

Planned, designed and constructed rooftop garden at LaLaport Kashiwa and planned and ran vegetable gardening courses.

2005

Completed new company building at Tama Center and moved headquarters.

2003

Participated in the renewal and re-opening of SPROUT, a flower shop that has been in business since Tamagawa Takashimaya Department Store opened (1969).

2002

Company name changed to Green Wise Co., Ltd. Yuichi Tamaru named as Representative Director.

2001

Shoten Kenchiku published INDOOR GREEN STYLE with supervision from Green Wise.

1999

Commenced the sale of the first interior green in Japan at a commercial facility in Yokohama.

1995

Created wall greening on the West Building of Tamagawa Takashimaya Department Store.

1990

Created theme garden Tokyo Metropolitan Government Hana no Edokan at The International Garden and Greenery Exposition (Osaka).

>Worked on indoor and outdoor planting for pavilions at the Yokohama Exotic Showcase.

Rooftop greening with pearl loam method at Tamagawa Takashimaya Department Store.
Currently managing over 4,000m2 of green space for the store overall.

Japan Potted Plant and Tree Association (now Nippon Indoor Green Association) established.

1962

Rooftop garden constructed using lightweight artificial soil (pearl loam method) developed by Green Wise for the rooftop garden at Takashimaya in Nihonbashi, said to be the first in Japan at a commercial facility.

1953

Created the first TV set garden when NHK broadcasting began and have continued to create sets since then.

1940

Tokoen, Co., Ltd. established as a corporation.

1921

Construction of rooftop greening decorations on the demand of Shibuya Town Hall at the time of the Meiji Jingu ground sanctifying ceremony.

1915

Participated in the construction of Meiji Jingu.

1905

Kamekichi Tamaru set up Tokoen in Shibuya Village, Tama, Tokyo (now Ebisu in Shibuya Ward).
Began landscape architecture, greenhouse plant cultivation and rental and Japan’s first plant and tree rental company.
